What I’m asking is do you know why you do what you do? Do you know what decisions got you to this point in your life? Do you jump out of bed in the morning excited about the day ahead with a sense of wonder and purpose?

I suppose the real question is do you live consciously, choosing to live in line with your vision and values or do you live unconsciously on auto pilot, without any real sense of purpose and direction?

So many people fall into the trap of going into careers they don’t enjoy, that don’t really satisfy them but it pays for the big house and the material trappings that society says we need and soon enough we are stuck in a cycle of working to buy more things to maintain this lifestyle that has been created. When we’re in this place, life is often lived on autopilot… We get up, we shower, go to work, do our job, go home, watch TV, go to bed and repeat. Over time this becomes habit, the norm, and we can go through the motions of our daily activities without questioning whether we are really enjoying what we’re doing, whether we’re being the best version of ourselves that we can be. Its like living in black and white, in a constant fog, not aware that there is an alternative, that we do have a choice.

I find a good way to live more consciously is to check in with myself on a daily basis and ask myself a series of questions. Here are some you might want to try:

What are my values and how can I live in line with them today?

If I imagine the ideal version of myself, what would they be doing today?

What would I do today if I knew I couldn’t fail?

What are my goals for this week and what is the one thing I can do today towards achieving my goal?

What am I grateful for in my life?

The great thing about asking questions is that it forces your mind to come up with answers and it inspires you to choose a path that is in line with your best self, which in turn will make you feel more inspired and in control of your life.

So make a note of these questions or make up your own ask them to yourself daily to make sure you are living a life of choice and not just leaving it to chance.
